Motivation and Performance

Updated: Oct 12, 2022

There is a link between motivation and performance. What most managers and owners fail to understand and perform upon is a critical key to operational success. All too often codependent cultures exist where people wait until told and fail to think and act on their own. Type A personalities often open businesses and then become slaves to the business allowing it to truly own them. It's not because they are dumb. It's not because they are not hard working, passionate or creative. It's because they attempt to control the wrong elements of the business itself. I have encountered operations with no bar or food inventory, ordering, receiving or production standards. I see owners and managers working hard but not smart. Listen, employees work harder and smarter not for YOU but for themselves. It's natural, it's powerful but it can't be dictated or controlled. Employee's must make a connection between their needs and performing to the clear expectations defined by interviews, employment agreements and the initial education after hire.

Next, don't spray and pray standards and training. Be clear. Be firm. Be fun. Be real. Management is not about control, it's about release and support. Learn how to let people succeed for you.

If you find yourself working long hours and repeating the same tasks or mistakes, send me a message and let's see what I can do! Yours in Success, Peter Dean Bouloukos Bozeman, Montana 59718
